Today I thought I’d share a post that has been requested by a few of you – how I take care of my skin! With holiday party season coming up, I thought it was only fitting to share my (ridiculously simple) tips for glowing, healthy, happy skin 🙂
Not So Smooth Sailing
I’d be remiss if I didn’t introduce this post by telling y’all that I used to have the worst acne. I’m talking big, painful pimples and little red bumps galore – from middle school through most of high school. In my junior year of high school, I started taking Accutante (a very potent acne medication) for about six months. Since then, my acne has cleared in a major way. Now, I use three, simple cleansing, correcting, and detoxifying products to maintain clear and happy skin.
1). CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser
I’ve been using this stuff for about four years now, and here’s my breakdown:
- Wash my face first thing in the morning
- Wash after a workout (shower)
- Wash before bed at night
So I’m using this cleanser 2-3x a day and the bottle is big enough that it lasts me several months. Usually it costs anywhere from $12.99 to $13.99 at CVS or any local pharmacy / drug store. I love that it foams because for some reason, if my cleanser doesn’t then I don’t feel like my face is clean, and it never leaves my skin tight or sticky. Just a smooth, soapy, and simple cleanser through and through.
No makeup, no problem 🙂
2). SulfaCleanse 8/4
This is a topical cream that I use to spot treat any pimples when they arise. My dermatologist recommended it and after insurance, this huge, 16 fl oz container was free. So that’s an economically good deal right there. Not to mention, it lasts. so. freaking. long. I rarely break out anymore, but this stuff is magic in my opinion because it works insanely quickly. Here’s the breakdown:
- notice a pimple, whitehead, blackhead, you name it during the day
- squeeze a pea amount of the SulfaCleanse 8/4 onto my index finger
- dab it onto the pimple before bed
- wake up, and the pimple is 90% gone
- almost always 100% gone the next day!
I recommend spot treating before bed, because you want to make sure to get a good amount on the affected area, and it’ll dry yellow and crusty. Just wash it off in the morning and you’re good to go! (More info about SulfaCleanse 8/4 here)
3). Boscia Luminizing Black Mask
Can we all just agree that peel off masks are the freaking coolest?? There’s something so therapeutic about peeling off a mask and feeling like all the dirt and grime accumulated on your skin is peeling off with it. If you’ve never tried it, trust me it’s very satisfying. I initially got this mask in a sample size from Sephora, and just recently purchased because I loved it so much. My breakdown:
- Usually 1x a week for 30 minutes at night
I won’t say that I notice my skin looking ridiculously radiant or glowy right after use, because actually it tends to be a bit red after peeling. It’s more the feeling of my face like it’s fresh and full again. It’s worth the $34 for me to be able to indulge in a bit of skin self care once or twice a week 🙂
I don’t need to remind you that a pimple here and there is nothing to be ashamed about. Heck, I get them. We all do. But having a skincare routine and a few go-to products makes me happy. I like knowing what I’m giving my skin to soak up, and that it’s working to keep it healthy. Let me know if you’ve tried any of these products, or plan on purchasing!
